Sand n' Saddle: A horse riding tour with a heartwarming story

Even though the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel is a popular destination for business travellers, we are often surprised by the number of guests who inquire about nature tours and attractions. It seems that even amidst their busy schedules, many visitors have a deep-seated desire to connect with the natural world, especially animal lovers who yearn for a chance to interact with them during their downtime.

When it comes to requests for horse riding tours, there is an attraction that many horse lovers find endearing. It’s called Sand n’ Saddle

Owner, Jessica Perez, founded the Sand n' Saddle horse-riding tour in 2021 to rescue horses from being sold due to the closure of her aunt’s tour business, Braco Stables, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing financial challenges, she managed to acquire several horses with the help of donations and personal funds, ultimately launching her horseback riding tour company to ensure their well-being and preserve the legacy of Braco Stables.

Perhaps this is part of the reason animal lovers fall in love with the excursion while learning about the care that goes into the treatment of the horses at Sand n’ Saddle. The welfare of animals at tourism attractions is always a genuine concern for many.

The other reason for becoming enchanted with Sand n' Saddle is the experience itself. The 1-hour and 15-minute tour starts at a private beach with a 50-minute trail ride through beautiful farmlands and countryside.

Experienced guides offer a comprehensive orientation, including safety instructions before embarking on the journey. Along the way they share their knowledge of the surrounding areas and Jamaica itself.

After the trail ride winds its way back to the beach, guests can enjoy a refreshing swim with their horses, riding bareback in the Caribbean Sea to conclude the experience. The pristine waters and white sands are the perfect setting for photographs that will capture these memories forever.

Sand n' Saddle stands out as an immersive adventure, not only for the beauty of the countryside and Caribbean Sea but also for the engaging guides who bring an unforgettable cultural flavour. Combined with the staff's genuine love for the horses, the tour becomes the ultimate feel-good experience..

The drive from Kingston to the Sand N Saddle excursion in Braco, Trelawny, typically takes around two and a half hours by car, depending on traffic and road conditions.

We’ll be happy to make that trip easier and livelier for you. Speak with our restaurant staff about preparing snacks and desserts to take on your journey. Our chefs can prepare the perfect bites for the road and also for your time spent at the Sand n’ Saddle beach.

You can also plan for your arrival at the hotel. Excursions are fun but they often require a little ‘winding down’ at the end of the day. So how about an appointment at our spa. A massage or body treatment may provide  the perfect end to a day of fun.
