A Storied History: The Legacy of The Jamaica Pegasus
The story of The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel began in 1968. Pegasus Hotels of Jamaica Limited was incorporated as a joint venture between British Overseas Airways Corporation (now British Airways), Trusthouse Forte, and the People of Jamaica. The hotel partially opened in 1973 to accommodate a major convention before officially launching that September.
Over the years, the hotel changed ownership and management. In 1976, the Government of Jamaica acquired shares. By 2002, the hotel returned to local management under the original Jamaica Pegasus brand. In 2010 and 2011, noted hotelier Kevin Hendrickson and his company acquired 100% ownership. This added The Jamaica Pegasus to a portfolio that includes The Courtleigh Hotel & Suites and other respected properties.
